Drabble: The Daydreaming Dreamwalker

20160506_131828-1[1].jpg

The mark of a distinguished dreamwalker, people say, is the ability to sleep any time and anywhere. This is true, but best of the best dreamwalkers do not always need to sleep to dreamwalk. Daydreams are a kind of dream too, and through them, it’s possible to visit dreams while having a nice, leisurely breakfast in a quiet cafe.

This, actually, is the favourite pastime of a very experienced dreamwalker, though no one knows he can dreamwalk. He has trouble sleeping anywhere uncomfortable or unusual, and none of the other dreamwalkers have ever seen him during their travels.

Then again, the dreamwalkers are a disorganised bunch, and this dreamwalker is a man of many faces. Besides, getting recognition from other dreamwalkers isn’t worth the freedom he will need to give up in exchange. And what’s the point of dreamwalking if he has to be constrained by the same rules as reality?

He takes a sip of his drink and set the cup down. Between one breath and another, he slips on a different look and strolls quietly into a stranger’s daydream.
