In a world where everyone is born a twin, she is born a single child. She tries not to let her singleness bother her, but the nature of a world where existing in pairs is the norm means that everything is an inescapable reminder.
There is one person she knows of who doesn’t exist in a pair, an uncle who lives in the house beside the lake. But he used to be a twin too, and the story of how he turned from a twin brother to a single child is so devastating just being around him makes her depressed.
And even though they’re both single, she has always been one of a kind. Most of the time, she doesn’t mind her lack of body double. It’s just that sometimes, like during group projects or when she’s forced to buy two copies of the same thing, she feels a little lonely.
Then one day, she meets another single in a different city. There’re only two of them in two cities, but it opens up the possibility that they are not the only ones born twinless.
Two weeks later, she embarks on a journey. There are other people out there who are twinless.
And she will find them.
