Drabble: One Thought

My response to the August prompt ‘start’.

Genre: general, drama

~One Thought~

It started with a thought.

I don’t want to lose her.

In the whole world, only his neighbours cared for him. And among that family, their oldest daughter in particular dropped by his place the most to check on him. He didn’t care if the rest of the world went up in flames, he would be upset if the family next door died, but he would be devastated if she vanished from his life.

So he took steps to ensure she would never leave him.

Playing to his strengths, he dove into the world of science. Biology, physiology, chemistry, anything that would lead him to the secret of immortality.

Along the way, he found a trick to induce an indefinite stasis. It wasn’t perfect, but that would buy him some time until he found the ultimate solution.

Next on his agenda: kidnap his neighbour.

~The story continues in One Word.~
