Drabble: Last Ones Standing

My response to the August prompt ‘defend’.

Genre: fantasy

~Last Ones Standing~

As a Fighter, her job was simple.

Protect the city.

Leaving the city wasn’t at the top of her ‘favourite things to do’ list. It wasn’t even in the middle. But if going outside could keep everyone else inside alive, she could dislike it a little less.

That said, she doubt she would ever love her job as much as their team ace. Or was it more appropriate to call her their battle addict? Once that girl started, she didn’t stop until all the monsters were dead, and she would smile the whole time.

On the bright side, all that energy was great at drawing the monsters’ attention away from her, which made it easier for her to defend. The best teams weren’t the ones who killed the most monsters, but the ones where everyone came back alive after every mission. Ever since this team was created around her shielding ability, they had never lost a team member in the line of duty.

She intended to keep it that way.

Find out more about the battle addict in the companion piece Offense is the best Defense.
