Short Story: Unrequited
It was an unrequited love, doomed from start to finish. She just couldn’t get him out of her mind. His smile. His voice. His eyes.
Fingers snapped in front of her face. She jerked back in her seat and out of her thoughts.
“Still thinking about him?” her friend asked as he sat across her.
She twisted her lips and rested her chin in her hand.
“Why are the good ones always taken?” she complained.
“They aren’t. You just haven’t looked in the right places.”
Her friend opened his mouth to speak, then changed his mind and closed it without a word other than a frustrated sigh.
“See?” she said.
He muttered something that ended with “Do you?”
