Short Story: Cake Traitor

“We have a traitor in our midst.”

They stood around the cake, perfectly round but for the one slice of empty space.

“Isn’t traitor a bit too much?”

“A breach of trust, no matter how small, is still a breach. A wound left untreated will fester. Whoever ate this slice needs to fess up before they get found out.”

They eyed each other, but no one spoke up.

“Why so serious?”

A deep voice cut through the silence, drawing their attention to…

“Where did you get that cake?”

A careless finger pointed at the cake on the table. “Right there.”

Mystery solved.
