Short Story: The Nest Outside Her Window

Hidden in the tree outside her bedroom window sits a bird’s nest. She knows this, not because she has seen the nest hidden among the dense foliage, but because she hears them, chirping and squabbling in the early hours of every morning.

It’s terrible for her night owl student self, because there’s no way she can sleep in after an all-nighter with all the noise.

For her early bird adult self, the bird song is a nicer alternative to a shrill alarm in the morning.

The birds still wake up earlier than she prefers, but she tolerates the noise and adjusts her sleeping habits to match theirs.

At least it’s not a colony of bats shrieking at all hours of the night.
