Short Story: Suspicious Smiles

They beamed at him, giving him large grins as if they were competing for the biggest smile.

They were hiding something. He knew this not just because they looked super suspicious, but because he could clearly see a scaled red tail thicker than his thigh peeking out from behind the island table.

How these supernatural beings kept their identities secret, he had no clue. As long as they didn’t harm anyone else, he was happy to continue keeping up the pretense of a clueless human.

“I’m going to take a nap. Wake me up for dinner,” he lied.

“Ok,” everyone said, including the dragon hiding from him.

He waited until he was out of view in his room before he facepalmed.
