~Chapter 27 A Few Friends Dropping By~

The weekend arrives in the blink of an eye. Some people return their sign up sheets, already filled, but the vast majority of the guild are procrastinators that are content to wait until Monday. She hopes they will hand in the sign in sheets on time. Because if they don’t, she’ll need to track them down, and the longer they make her wait, the harder it’ll be for her to sort and organise them in time for the special lessons they have planned for the next month.

“You look stressed,” Lucy says bluntly when she arrives with the other guild members from Shatterstrike.

“I am. A little,” Sherri admits.

“You need another holiday.”

~Chapter 26 Back at Morning Song~

Everyone returns to Shatterstrike before Sherri leaves, so she has a chance to say her goodbyes until the next time they meet, whenever that is.

Derek has some food packed for her. Not ‘much’, just enough to fill the back of the car the guild shares.

Nolan has some extra tools and materials that he no longer needs, which gets packed in between the food.

Not to be outdone, Fletcher offers to drop by the weekend after to give a helping hand, an idea that Lex and Lucy quickly jump on.

~Chapter 25 Making Things Right~

What compensation should she ask for? How much should they be compensated for? What is and is not acceptable as compensation?

The thoughts circle in my mind. She lets them run. Some solutions come more easily when they have had space to roam.

For now, it’s a Saturday, which means that everyone gathers at the backyard to watch Derek and Corvus’ weekly sparring session.

~Chapter 24 Different but Same~

She still has her room, even though she’s been gone for a month. She supposed there’s no hurry to clear her things when there are so many rooms left unused in the guild hall, but it’s still nice to able to step in to a place that is ‘hers’.

~Chapter 23 Restoring Morning Song~

It takes everyone in the guild, working around the clock, to restore Morning Song. The hunters clear the hunting ground of monsters and harvest materials, some of which are sold immediately outside for some quick cash, others are passed to their own artisans to refine into new stock for their shop.

~Chapter 22 Return to Morning Song~

Sherri wakes with a scream.

“I won’t be moved,” she calls out to her emph as she throws herself out of the bed.

Her emph forms as a shield on her right arm as she runs down the corridor and up the stairs. Voices call out but she ignores them. She is looking only for one man.

~Chapter 21 The Day It Happened~

Elite monsters were never easy to deal with. The bigger guilds usually guarded the larger tears and had special elite teams trained to take the elite monsters down. For smaller guilds like theirs, they dealt with the smaller tears and so rarely had to fight any elite monsters. But when the rare elite monster did break through, their best option was to reach out to other nearby guilds and band together.

Small guilds were like mushrooms. They appeared and disappeared all the time. And even if they managed to find one, there was no guarantee that they had hunters capable of fighting against elite monsters who could help them out. Even within Morning Song, they only had two people who might be able to stand their ground against an elite monster. Maybe five, if her father was around to amplify their abilities.

This time, they had a team of eight.

~Chapter 20 Conversations Behind Closed Doors~

“What do you think we are hiding from you?” Julia asks with her usual smile.

“We talked about what Corvus did to my guild and what he did to me, but we didn’t talk about the why. Why did Corvus attack my guild? Let’s start with that,” Anastasia says.

“Alright,” Julia says and takes a seat. Corvus moves to her side and leans against the table without a word. Anastasia takes a seat in one of the other chairs.

“A few days ago, we talked about Estella, Reuben’s late wife. Do you remember?” Julia begins.

~Chapter 19 The Stranger~

The stranger, who introduces herself as Fern, refuses to go to Shatterstrike’s guild hall, but Julia is right that the conversation they want to have should not happen on the public street, so they compromise with a cafe a few streets away that Fern is familiar with.

Julia suggests that the others head back to the guild hall first. No one takes up her offer and shamelessly invites themselves to the cafe.
