Short Story: Solitary Role

Sewage clearing was a dirty, smelly job with odd hours, making it an unpopular job. But the upside was that it paid well, and it was a solitary role.

Well, it used to be a solitary role.

“Eww. Is that… I don’t even want to say what it is,” the trainee she had been tasked to orientate said as he splashed away, cringing and shuddering with every discovery.

She lifted her eyes to the ceiling.

Just a few more days, and the trainee would either quit or be assigned to his own area, and she would get her solitude back.
